Lethrinops marginatus "Manda"

Lethrinops marginatus is living above sandbottoms in reasonable shallow water. They can be found in several covered lay bays like in Senga Bay, near Kambiri Point and Mvunguti in the southwestern part of the lake. However they are also spotted in the northwestern part of the lake in the neighbourhood of Chesese and also near Itungi and Matema in the extreme northern part and also near Liuli and Manda along the Tanzanian coast. These examples were found in the neighbourhood of Manda.

In the lake the males of these species can grow to 12 cm, in the aquarium however they can grow taller because of a good feeding. The males can then grow to about 16 cm, females grow to about 12 cm.

Lethrinops marginatus is searching the sand for food and lives mainly of the invertebrates they find in the sand after jigging this. You can best keep this species with multiple females in a large tank with a lot of swimming space. It`s a quiet, peaceful cichlid which can be hold best with other quiet species from equal environments.

In the aquarium they are comfortable with any food. They take everything they get offered, like spirulina pellets, mysis, artemia, cyclops and shrimp-peas mix.
